Between Silicon and Soul
A field journal for life in the middle
Most of us carry a quiet fear we rarely admit out loud: that we are not enough. That we will be found out. That we are unwanted, unneeded, inadequate, lost, beyond repair. Some people never seem to feel this, and either they have unusual wisdom, or something in them is switched off.
Between Silicon and Soul exists because I have felt that fear, watched it shape people I love, and watched it leak into the way we build companies, raise kids, choose leaders, and define success.
This site is where I catalog what I see: patterns, trends, contradictions, and the surprising ways technology and humanity keep colliding. For years, the "silicon" side was easy to talk about. Tools. Acceleration. Systems. Strategy.
Over time, I realized the "soul" side is not a poetic add-on. It is the footing. And that footing is tied to three things:
The fear under the fear
The motivations we avoid naming are often the ones driving our decisions, personally and professionally.
A future that is not one story
I can hold multiple visions of what comes next at the same time: disastrous, wondrous, and everything in between. The future is rarely crystal clear, no matter who claims it is.
Uncertainty about outcomes, clarity about motives
Outcomes are messy. But motivations, ethics, and spiritual posture matter. They shape the actions we take when no one is watching and when there is no neat playbook.
We matter more than we think
The future is not shaped "out there" by distant forces alone. Global is shaped by local. Culture is shaped by kitchens, workplaces, churches, classrooms, group texts, and the choices made by ordinary people on ordinary Tuesdays.
We influence more than we can measure. Sometimes for good. Sometimes for harm. Either way, we are not spectators.
A song I keep coming back to
A Phill Wickham song lit something up in me, and I found myself rewriting its opening as a kind of manifesto. Not as doctrine. More like a compass.
A few lines I keep returning to:
What if you can be saved? What if you can be changed?
What if hope is alive? What if loyalty will not die?
What if trust is the game, and nothing is the same?
What if you must decide how to be different, how to be alive?
That last line is the heartbeat for me. The world is changing fast. You still get to decide who you will be in it.
Brand is just a grown-up word for identity
When I use the word "brand," I do not mean logos and campaigns. I mean identity.
Personal. Familial. Corporate. Ecclesiastical. Civic.
What do we believe about people? What do we reward? What do we tolerate? What do we protect? What do we call "success," and what do we quietly sacrifice to get it?
What you will find here
Between Silicon and Soul is a place for:
Observations and synthesis across work, technology, culture, and faith
Clear-eyed realism about what is breaking and what is being rebuilt
Practical frameworks for choosing, building, leading, and staying human
A stubborn thread of hope that does not require pretending everything is fine
This site has been searching for this moment: moving from observation to a more meaningful structure, not to fret over others, but to find our place in the great song and live it with integrity.
If you are here because you feel the tension too, welcome.
